Actor Jesse Eisenberg said he does not intend to leave the United States because of Donald Trump’s presidency. During the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival in the Czech Republic, he said that abandoning the country for political reasons “seems a little silly”.
Eisenberg received Polish citizenship last year, which sparked speculation that he could move to Europe. However, he said he considers himself a “very lucky American” and feels a responsibility to remain in New York to help people facing difficulties.
The actor pointed out that his wife is a teacher and works with vulnerable students. According to him, the couple believes it makes more sense to continue supporting the community than to leave the country because they disagree with the political situation.
The statement contrasts with the decision of some celebrities who left the United States after Trump’s reelection, such as Rosie O’Donnell and Ellen DeGeneres. Eisenberg, however, said his life is very good and that he sees no reason to move only because of political disagreements.
“No, I’m not leaving because I don’t like America’s politics. That seems a little silly, because my life is very good”, he argued during the event, according to Variety.
